Brooks Brothers Fall 2012 Catalogue

I received the Brooks Brothers fall catalogue this week and was happy to see their tuxedos featured so prominently.  Modeled by the members of indie band Passion Pit, they are described from left to right as:

  • 1818 Fitzgerald one-button tuxedo 327K Made in the USA.  Non-iron Golden Fleece tuxedo shirt with Tennis collar and French cuffs 105I.  Solid satin bow tie 134I Woven in England and made in the USA.
  • One-button shawl collar tuxedo jacket 614K  Made in the USA.  1818 plain-front tuxedo trousers 563K Made in the USA.  Non-iron Golden Fleece tuxedo shirt with Tennis collar and French cuffs 105I.  Solid satin bow tie 134I Woven in England and made in the USA.
  • Double-breasted tuxedo jacket 615K Made in the USA.  1818 pleated-front tuxedo trousers 562K Made inthe USA.  Non-iron Golden Fleece tuxedo shirt 105I.  Solid satin bow tie 134I Woven in England and made in the USA.
  • One-button tuxedo jacket 558K Made in the USA.  1818 plain-front tuxedo trousers 563K Made in the USA. Non-iron Golden Fleece tuxedo shirt 105I.  Solid satin bow tie 134I Woven in England and made in the USA.

On top of that, there is a page showcasing various models of brimmed hats including a top hat.  Presumably it is available only at select stores as the model number provided is not listed on their web site.

The sad news is that the web site’s depiction of the double-breasted tuxedo shows a model wearing a four-in-hand tie . . . with a fish skeleton print no less.

Sad to see 0 for 3 on the waist coverings in your attached photo. Maybe it’s part of the “indie” formal look? Amazing how much it bothers me now!

Nothing but non-iron shirts? Come on!

Brooks Brother is losing their touch.

Well, their website does show an evening tailcoat—a “traditional tuxedo jacket”—being worn with a black tie, pleated shirt, black studs, and a cummerbund. Yeah, I’d say they’re losing their touch all right.

Oh for… you’ve got to be sh*tting me.

In a few years, this is going to come back to bite del Vecchio in the ass. By alienating their older or more educated customers, they’ve ensured that only the ignorant or fashion-oriented will shop there now. When they want to get their old customers back, it won’t be easy. I mean seriously… they altered the Madison fit to have a lower rise, shorter jacket, and narrower lapels. While I’m not opposed to a couple of those details, there are many who are. Leave that stuff to the Fitzgerald or Milano Fits. Better yet, leave it to Black Fleece.
